Weatherproof protection for wet conditions - choose a membrane suit for hunting

REPO

Hunting suits can generally be divided into two main types: membrane and non-membrane suits. Although there are of course also hybrid models in which, for example, the shoulders and trouser legs are equipped with a film, in this article we will focus especially on the advantages and uses of a hunting suit with a film.

What is the difference between a hunting suit with and without a membrane?

The difference between a hunting suit with a membrane and one without a membrane lies, as the name suggests, in the fact that the membrane suit has a waterproof and breathable membrane, while the non-membrane one does not. The membrane, which is usually laminated together with the outer fabric of the garment, together with the taped seams, keeps the wearer dry in varying conditions.

The function of the membranes is based on the microscopically small pores on the surface of the membrane, which are not penetrated by water droplets, but the water vapor rising from the human body penetrates - thus the membrane garment protects against water, but also breathes effectively compared to traditional rainwear.

Membrane suits are perhaps even the most typical choice among hunters today due to their versatility, although of course there are two schools of thought on this matter as well. Especially for hunting days in late autumn and early winter, a membrane suit is a great choice, as the weather conditions can change quickly.

Why choose a foil suit for hunting?

Today, a foil suit is the most typical choice for many hunters, although of course there are exceptions. A membrane hunting suit is a great choice for damp and colder conditions. If you want to get just one hunting suit that is as versatile as possible, it might make sense to turn your eyes in the direction of membrane hunting suits.

The biggest advantage of the membrane suit is, of course, its waterproofness, which is achieved by combining a high-quality membrane and seam tapes with the suit. This combination keeps the hunter dry in rain and wet terrain. Already in early autumn, hunting trousers with a membrane in particular are often needed, as the ground is almost always wet after nightfall.

Although today's membrane suits breathe effectively, it goes without saying that they are not as breathable as non-membrane suits. However, membrane suits offer excellent protection against wind and water, which makes them ideal for cold autumn and winter days.

Purpose and conditions of use of the membrane hunting suit

Membrane hunting suits are ideal for conditions where protection from moisture and cold is a priority. Often, membrane suits are at their best in the changing and already colder conditions of late autumn - you shouldn't go out into the heat with a membrane suit. Membrane equipment is at its best for, for example, pass hunting, where you stay still for long periods of time and you need good protection against weather conditions.

Membrane suits are also suitable for mobile yachts, as long as a few basic things are kept in mind. By dressing in layers, you can feel either comfortable or cramped, i.e. if you move a lot, wear lighter clothes under the suit. Also, remember to open the suit's ventilation holes before you set off - if the sweat has already taken you by surprise and you feel damp on the inside, the ventilation holes will no longer save the situation.

What kind of membrane hunting suit should you choose?

When choosing a hunting suit with a membrane, it is good to pay attention to the following points:

  • Material. Make sure that a durable and high-quality material is used as the outer material of the suit, which can withstand even heavy wear if necessary.
  • Breathability. Choose a membrane suit with a good breathability value and zippered vents! However, remember that breathability will never reach the same level as a suit without a membrane.
  • Comfort and fit. A good fit improves mobility and comfort. The suit should fit well, but also allow layering if necessary. By dressing in layers, you can make the same suit work well from early autumn all the way to freezing temperatures. Additional features don't hurt either, and for example, the stretch panels of the Alpha G2 pants are a great addition to a toupee membrane suit.
  • Silence. The hunting suit should be made of as quiet a material as possible, so that you can move inconspicuously towards the prey if necessary.
  • Pattern and coloring. The suit must provide effective camouflage with a pattern and coloring suitable for the environment. There are a lot of both effective and stylish camo patterns today, of courseRepo's own xFadethe pattern is the best.

A hunting suit with a membrane is an excellent choice for those who hunt in variable and often challenging weather conditions. The protection it offers against moisture and cold makes it a versatile and reliable option for many hunting situations throughout the fall.

Remember to properly maintain your membrane suit

When you get a hunting suit with a membrane, read its care instructions, for example here, carefully. With the wrong measures, even a good membrane suit can be ruined quickly. However, do not leave the suit completely unattended for fear of mistakes.

Therefore, wash the membrane suit regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions. In general, the most important steps for a suit than a suit are:

  1. Use a liquid detergent intended for washing membrane clothes.
  2. Do not use detergents or bleaches!
  3. Use the washing program according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do not spin! For example, Repo Extreme's membrane clothing can be washed at 30* degrees delicate wash
  4. Hang dry at room temperature
  5. Saturate the surface of the garment if necessary

These simple steps will go a long way in maintaining your membrane suit. You can read more about the maintenance of membrane clothes here!
